Korea, Iran, Spain, Vietnam, Germany Win Gold Medal on 2nd Day of 4th World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships


Korea won three gold medals and one silver on the second day of the 4th WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Cairo, Egypt on Dec. 1, 2009.
 
Iran clinched one gold and four silvers, while Spain won one gold, one silver and four bronze medals.
 
The second day of the three-day poomsae championships, which took place at the Hall 1 of the Cairo Stadium, featured seven events. The event drew a record 564 athletes from a record 59 countries.
 
In the mens individual 1st senior category, for the players aged between 19 and 30 years old, Koreas Jae-uk Jang won the gold. Irans Ali Nadalinajafabadi earned his country the silver medal, while Ahmed Alaa Zel Din Shaker of Egypt and Alberto Jo Lee of Spain shared the bronze medal in the event.
 
In the womens individual 1st senior division, Koreas Cho-rong Hwang ranked first for the gold, while Irans Mahsa Mardani grabbed the silver. The bronze went to Thi Thu Ngan Nguyen of Vietnam and Medina Ollin Yolztlin of Mexico.
 
Koreas Jae-yoon Ahn won the gold medal in the mens individual 2nd master category, for those over 51 years. Irans Hadi Torkashvand had to settle for the silver. The bronze went to Martiniano Ramos Ruanos of Spain and Pietro Cosimo Pinga of Italy.
 
In the womens individual 2nd mater division, Maria Angeles Urmeneta Torres of Spain took the gold medal, while Chung-hee Jang of Korea clinched the silver. Italys Clara Cecchetti and Jui Hsiang Tseng of Chinese Taipei shared the bronze.
 
In the mens 2nd team category, for those over 36 years, an Iranian trio of Seyed Hassan Zahedi, Ahmad Akhlaghi, and Mohammadtagi Hatami earned their country the first gold medal in the event. The silver wen to Turkeys Mehmet Okran, Kemal Yilmaz and Moustafa Yilmaz. A Spanish trio of Bernardo Fidalgo, Diego Carrillo Carrasco, and Juan Antonio Santiago Bueno, and a German trio of Werner Unland, Joannis Malliaros, and Karl-Heinz Oventrop shared the bronze.
 
In the womens 2nd team division, German players Imke Turner, Kirsten Teren, and Elvira Fuhrmann won the gold medal, while Irans Asadi Badri, Eftekhari Zahra, and Hadizadeh Pirbazari Zahra clinched the silver. The bronze went to Spanish contestants Yolanda Ubero, Maria Montserrat Sanchez, and Maria Alonso Mateo, and Egyptian athletes Amany Abdel Fattach Tawap, Rehab Gabr, and Merfat Abdalla Emran.
 
In the 1st pair category, for those between 14 and 35 years, Vietnams Dinh Toan Nguyen and Minh Tu Nguyen earned their country the first gold medal. The silver went to a Spanish duo of Mikel Martinez del Rio and Celia Calderon Martinez. Turkish players Karisik Fazil and Ozlem Tumay and French players Phan Le Thi Bivh and Le Jullien won the bronze medal.
